What's between the Moslem and the holy see?
How are we to take this new development within the catholic church as it affects the world @ large. Recent statements credited to the holy see are deemed not at all complimentary to the Islamic identity. Here, the matter is no longer the context of the quote (it has gone way beyond that)....the issue is what happens next?
1. Does his holiness Pope Benedict apologise and by doing so admit that the quote was ill advised by the Vatican?
2. Does the Vatican stick to its story of the paper being purely academic/theoligical and therefore appropriate with no need for apology?
3. Does the Vatican force its identity as a political hegemon, compromising its religious identity
4. Will quiet diplomacy along the back passages of power resolve the issue
In any case,
Is this a precursor to further controversy to surround his holiness? How will this help to rejuvenate the ailing catholic church (i am catholic. i should know)? Is this a brilliant opener to questioning Islamic thought? Do Moslems (I mean this in its entirerity) consider themselves reactionaries? What will happen?

Concise thoughts.
"the back passages of power"...that's rather naughty, mtb, diplomacy as the "back passage"/anus: sodomy! Your humour has me in stitches :-).And in relation to the Catholic Church which does have a liking (over the centuries) for this sort of activity. Is it likely that a Pope called Benedictus--he whose name means to speak of the good--is likely to admit that he spoke evil? Nah, I think not. It will be interesting to see what happens. Two great religions, both opposed to any kind of modern revisionism..it is hard to imagine any great dialogue between them. I wont' be waiting with baited breath on this issue. Perhaps, it will be a duel at dawn, one in which they will bash one another with their holy books like good children of the one God. People have suggested that because they believe in the One that this shows peace and respect between them. Really? Catholics and Protestants believe in monotheism--that produced hate--Northern Ireland, Civil War, and a resulted in a Reformation. The problem with religion is that it invites people to spend too much time worrying over whom owns God.
