two faced BB

Turned out i was watching British Big Brother last night as it came on after the Diana documentary on channel 4. I saw the contestant Emily and i liked her immediately. Clever (at the time anyway), pretty and even snotty in that somerset way. Turns out today, she used the dreaded N word and got kicked off the show. Hypocrisy!!!!! This is what Britain is about. It reminds me of how Sean told me that he sees more racism than i do, Sean is white. Does it
1. Show how naive the suburban white kid is to racial issues in today's world?
2. Does it show the precarious balance of civil society injected by political correctness
3. Does it show how the big organisation is willing to sacrifice the little man to cover its backside
4. Which is right or wrong, hidden racism or blatant racism
This is from a country where everyone in charge is still white. The bloody organisation (channel 4) is so hideously white.
Did no one notice how Charley deliberately hammed up the whole thing by feigning shock? Sigh, when will Britain learn!!!

While your points are valid, it is still interesting (not just frustrating) to watch how Channel 4 has developed in its reactions on the public issues regarding race. They threw her out immediately because of what happened with Jade.

Sean told you he can see racism more than you can? HUH??

I am not sure, mtb, that suburban white kids are "naive" about racial issues: they are becoming increasingly well-versed (thanks to the right wing parties). "Which is right or wrong, hidden racism or blatant racism?" Surely, they are both wrong as implicit institutionalised racism is no better than overt personal racism. I think you over simplify a bit: the UK isn't a country where everyone in charge is still "white".

I'm sure I left a comment on this blogpost... didn't I? I must be going mad.

All good points you make. It happened of course because of the whole Jade disaster. Channel 4 is walking a tight rope.

@ idols: good on you lot, well done!
@ snuffy: I'm so sorry for posting this so late, no excuses really. I think regardless of the many perspectives, channel 4 was right to do so. True, racism is inherent in society, but on the face of things; it should never be seen to be condoned lest it be encouraged. Have i said sorry already? :-))
@ Eshu: I dnt know, i think society is simple enough...and everyone in charge IS white; either by vitue of their skin or otherwise.

I have been living in the Uk for just five years and i have found out how two faced most caucasians are towards people of other races.

Emily knew the implication of what she said and she did it to prove a point. i dont think shes naive but another ignorant white girl.

I really don’t watched BB - American, British or African, so I really can’t comment on anything about the show. But on racism, ahh...I can.
Which is worse u ask? I'd go with hidden racism. Yes they are all wrong and all that bull but I'm sure there is no worse feeling than when u think a certain white friend isn’t racist, and one day throws the N word at u. With all the PC words we have now (especially in the U.S.), it is so easy for people to hide their real feelings - to hide the real racist pricks that they are. Truth be told, I'd much rather have someone come up to me and tell me "I don't like Niggers" I wont be offended in anyway, in fact I might commend him on his honesty and stay the hell out of his way - My point is I'd feel more comfortable knowing a certain person is openly racist than he throwing it in my face once upon an early morning.
The new thing now is everyone feigning surprise when a celebrity says a racist remark....c’mon now, it’s not like we didn’t know Imus was racist or he hadn’t used racist remarks before. When the guys above feel like they are going to loose (money, ratings or otherwise) from something someone does, their first reaction is pretense shock…..its just what they do.

thanks all for stopping by!
@Meadows J.: unfortunately, i will have to agree with you on the two faced bit. Sad, but true!
@rj: interesting point but does this not give the disputed credit to the white man once again? where he is the agressor and the colored man is cowering in his wake?
